A view of the Varlaam Monastery and surrounding cliffs from the Great Meteoran Monastery

The Holy Monastery of Varlaam is located vis a vis of the Grand Meteoro. His founder was the hermit Varlaam at about the 14th century. Later on was renovated by the two brothers called Theofanis and Nektarios Apsarades from the town of Ioannina .

The Katholiko of the H.M it is built in honor of all Saints and was built by Thofanis and Nektarios around 1541-1544.

The frescos of the main church-Katholiko were painted by the Franco Katelanos from the town of Thiba. There is as well in the H.M the chapel of the Three Bishops (Ierarches) wich is located upon the first little chapel that that the first ascetic Varlaam had built.

Very important constructions are the old breeding ground (restaurant) and the old people’s house , other words called hospital.
