Baba me
My friend Petko's grandmother, a lady of remarkable strength who's family was stripped of all they owned when Communism seized Bulgaria. In this picture she was telling the story of how her father was destroyed by 7 years in the Communist concentration camps, and how she as a young girl, was sent away to do forced labor on a state farm. Later she fought the system to earn her University diploma, and was one of the first people to lead the crusade against the communists in Northern Bulgaria when the changes began in the early 90's.
It was amazing to hear her story, after knowing Petko for so long, and never knowing the traumatic family history.
