I was standing on a sidewalk, lower than the bazaar when this young boy came and looked between the pillars to smile for the camera.
In the background are mounds of American and European clothing that has been discarded and given to organizations such as the Salvation Army, who then dump the clothes for pennies per pound on the African and South American used clothing markets. This practice has decimated local clothiers who cannot produce for the price of free. In the West we think that this is generous use of our unwanted items, but the ripple effect is a degradation of historical dress in many African countries.
